TCSU-L6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision
This is a CPCAB qualification and is intended to equip individuals with the expertise, abilities, and qualifications necessary to offer clinical supervision to counselling professionals. It is specifically targeted at experienced counsellors who are ready to transition into a supervisory role.

Course Fees : £1800 plus 20% VAT total course fee £2160.

Day and Time : This course will start in February 2026 and run once a month on a Saturday and Sunday for 7 months. You will have a break over the summer holidays which will provide time to complete your assignment before returning to the classroom for the last 2 sessions in September/ October 2026. The course will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm both Saturday and Sunday. (dates to be confirmed)

This certification prepares participants for roles as clinical counselling supervisors within counselling organisations or private practice. Ongoing supervision is a professional requirement for practicing counsellors, and holding an accredited qualification enhances employment opportunities.
The skills gained from this training will prepare you to handle key responsibilities of a clinical supervisor, such as:
- Supporting and guiding supervisees
- Promoting self-reflection and review
- Tracking progress within supervision
- Addressing legal and ethical considerations
- Enhancing understanding of the supervision process
- Managing relational dynamics that affect both counselling and supervision
The course incorporates Person-Centred theory and the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision. While theoretical knowledge is essential, the supervisor-supervisee relationship is equally important. Additional focus areas include ethics, diversity, client-centred approaches, and fostering self-awareness.

Work Experience
Participants must be engaged in a suitable environment that allows for interaction with supervisees. A minimum of 15 hours of supervision practice is required, providing opportunities to implement the concepts learned during the course.
Supervisory Supervision
As per CPCAB guidelines, candidates must complete at least five hours of supervisory supervision, which must be approved by their course tutor.
Additional Requirements
- Membership in a recognized professional organization (e.g., BACP,)
- Adequate liability insurance to cover work as both a Therapeutic Counsellor and a supervisor.
Course Assessment
Evaluation will be based on a portfolio that includes:
- Learning records
- Two essays (each 2,500 words)
- A case presentation
- Tutor observations and feedback
- Supervision logs
- A self-review
Entry Requirements

Possess qualifications at either Level 4 or Level 5, along with at least one year of post-qualification experience in supervised client work; or have completed 420 hours of counselling training at Level 4 or higher, with a minimum of two years post-qualification experience.

Be accredited or meet the eligibility criteria for accreditation, with a minimum of 450 client hours completed.

Currently practicing as a counselling supervisor or preparing to begin providing supervision.
